Landing gear mount corrosion: 2008-10-08

Nikon Coolpix 8400

This is what I found when I took the bubble-wrap off my landing gear mount. There are deep valleys between that tube coming in from bottom left and the wraparound piece that is welded to it. The bottom of those crevices are almost impossible to reach. It looks like a bad design to me; the factory says it's common to find corrosion there because it's hard to clean out all the acid used in the plating process. What's the point of applying a protective plating to the part but leaving 4 pockets where rust is bound to start? I cleaned off all the rust I could with wire brushes but am not convinced I got in to the farthest corner. I hope the ACF-50 I applied will slow down future corrosion.
