SMITH FAMILY HISTORY

The family were living at 99 Cedar Grove, Liverpool 8 when George Thomas Smith was born on the 15th of January 1887. George Thomas was the son of George Milne Smith, Marine Engineer and Mary Elizabeth Yoxall. George Thomas was the first of our Smiths to be born in Liverpool, his father being born in Aberdeen. The house is shown in the photo on the right and is the one with the white bay window in the centre of the view.

In the 1891 census, Mary Elizabeth is at the same house, shown as married but without husband George Milne Smith. Mary Elizabeth is recorded as "living on her own means" and it is possible that George Milne is working away at sea. With her are children George Thomas, Mary Elizabeth and Louie plus a six year old lodger from Douglas, Isle of Man named Mary A Cannell.
