George Milne Smith was a Marine Engineer who was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 25 January 1859. He moved to Liverpool, England between 1871 and 1881 and in January 1885 he married there. He was one of at least four children of Robert Smith and Euphemia Milne (from Kincardine O'Neil). Little is known about George Milne Smith's life. The family were living at 30 Skene Row, Aberdeen when he was born. In 1861 and 1871 they were at 29-31 Woolmanhill and 40 Blackfriars Street also in Aberdeen. By age 22, George Milne Smith had moved to Liverpool where he worked as an Engine Fitter and was staying with his married sister Euphemia Barron. In 1885 he married Mary Elizabeth Yoxall in Liverpool when he was a Mariner but no record of him in Britain has been found later than that, with his wife living without him in 1891 and 1901, though not widowed. A matching George M Smith died at sea on "Ethiopia" off the coast of Africa around Nigeria on the 1st of August 1901 aged 41. He was a 2nd Engineer and his address was 26 Aspen Grove Liverpool, while our Smith family were at 96 Aspen Grove in the 1901 census. Ship records indicate it was travelling to Sierra Leon at the time. Robert Smith was born around 1822 and was from Foveran, Aberdeenshire. Robert and Euphemia were married at Mannofield, Aberdeen on 7 March 1844. In 1881, Robert and Euphemia were living in Craigie Street in the centre of Aberdeen. When Euphemia died in 1901, their address was at nearby 49 Springbank Terrace. Robert was a Caledonian Railway Servant and died 25 May 1905 when his address was 317 Hardgate, Aberdeen.
