Saint Michael's station is now on Merseyrail's "Northern Line" but was originally opened as part of Cheshire Lines on the 1st of June 1864. As with other stations on this part of the line it was closed between 1972 and 1978 when it reopened with an electric (third rail) service.
The photo on the right shows the station looking from the north end with a train heading to Southport standing in the station.
