Liverpool's Central Station now serves the Merseyrail "Northern Line" and also "Wirral Line" and is entirely underground. The original Central Station was part of the Cheshire Lines Railway system at ground level with an underground station which was a terminus for the Mersey Railway.

Cheshire Lines opened the ground level station in 1874 to replace the old Brunswisk Street Station. Central was one of the three main terminal stations in central Liverpool. The above ground station is now totally demolished. Part of it is shown in the photo here. The Mersey Railway underground station came to Central in 1892 and is now part of the "Wirral Line".
