Statue of John Lennon in 'Liverpool John Lennon Airport'John Lennon was born in Liverpool at the Maternity Hospital in Oxford Street during a heavy air raid on the 9th of October 1940. His parents were Alf Lennon and Julia Stanley.

John first formed a music group with friends when at Quarry Bank High School in 1956. On the 15th of June 1956 while at Woolton, he met Paul McCartney whom was later invited to join "The Quarrymen". The Quarrymen lasted until 1959 when they became first The Moondogs, then The Silver Beatles and then finally in 1960 simply The Beatles. It is said that John came up with the name Beatles after thinking of the Crickets and introducing the "beat" spelling from beat music.

John Lennon died in New York City on the 8th of December 1980 after being shot by a man from Hawaii.
