Statue of Harold Wilson outside the Post Office in Huyton VillageHarold Wilson was British Prime Minister from 1964 to 1970 and 1974 to 1976 and was Labour MP for Huyton from 1950 following 5 years as MP for Ormskirk.

He was born in Huddersfield but moved to Wirral when his father came to find work. He spent his later school-life in Bebington where he met his wife Gladys Mary Baldwin at a tennis club.

As Prime Minister, overall, Wilson managed a number of difficult political issues with considerable tactical skill, including such potentially divisive issues for his party as the role of public ownership, British membership of the European Community, and the Vietnam War.

Harold Wilson died as "The Right Honourable The Lord Wilson of Rievaulx" in 1995.
