Fleetwood Hesketh was from a family of Lancashire landowners based around Southport who had merchant interests in Liverpool.

In 1836, another member of the family, Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood, named the new town of "Fleetwood" on the west Lancashire coast. Another name he had considered for the sea port before making his final decision was "New Liverpool".

A more up to date famous member of the Fleetwood family is Mick Fleetwood of the group "Fleetwood Mac". His father, Mike Fleetwood was born in Liverpool in 1915.
