"Beyond This Place", otherwise known as "Web of Evidence" is a particularly good film set in post war Liverpool.   Paul Mathry played by Van Johnson, is now an American citizen who had been born in Liverpool and sent abroad during the war.   He returns by ship from New York to try and find out about his father who had supposedly died a war hero.   However, he finds his father has been sent to jail but then uncovers a case of misplaced justice when he discovers that his father was actually alive and had been jailed for a murder he did not commit.   Lena Anderson played by Vera Miles works in the Picton Library in William Brown Street and first meets Paul Mathry when he's researchig old newspapers for information on his father.

Paul Mathry's search for information and evidence also takes him on a trip over the water to New Brighton.   Paul's father, Patrick Mathry, who is played by Bernard Lee, is eventually released but appears ungrateful for the efforts of his son.
