Archibald Knox [1864-1933]Archbald Knox (1864-1933) is a famous Manx born artist/designer.

Knox was born in Cronkbourne Village, Braddan on the 9th of April, 1864 when members of our Kelly family also lived there. Between 1878 and 1883, he studied at Douglas School of Art, passing examinations in ‘Design’ and in ‘Principles of Ornament’. Between 1884 and 1888, Knox taught art at the school and in 1889 he gained his Art Master’s Certificate.

Archibald Knox developed a lifelong interest in Celtic art. His designs made him a household name, as did his watercolours, graphic designs and fonts. His design talent covered a wide range of objects, ornamental and utilitarian, and included silver and pewter tea sets, jewellery, inkwells, boxes, gravestones and even bank cheques.
