William Formby Halsall is a famous marine artist who was born at Kirkdale in north Liverpool in 1841. He was educated at Boston, Massachusetts and one of his well known paintings is the "Mayflower at Plymouth Harbor".

William enlisted in the US Navy during the American Civil War. He lived at Provincetown, Massachusetts and died as an American in 1919.
