The 1871, 1881 and 1901 censuses all record William John as being from
Liverpool.
William John was the oldest child of the family but may have
been from his fathers first marriage as he was a widower before
marrying Sarah Randale Kelly in 1894. William John was in the
merchant navy and married late to Betty Bridson ne Driscoll from Rushen and had (or adopted his wife's) children.
His wife had a daughter also called Betty Bridson from a previous
marriage. William John moved to the Isle of Man after marrying
and took a new job on the Isle of Man ferry boats.
William John made at least 7 trips to New York between October 1917 and August 1924. Five of these were onboard Houston Line's "Harmodius". Though born in Liverpool, he is recorded as being "Manx" at Ellis Island.
William J's daughter Patricia was the informant on his death record in 1974.
