Amongst the first Bryans to travel to the New World were John Bryan who was at Taunton, Massachusetts in the early 17th century and other emigrants to Virginia in 1637.    There are at least two cities named Bryan.    Bryan, Texas is named after William Joel Bryan while Bryan, Ohio was incorporated in 1840 by John A Bryan.

Between 1846 and 1851 inclusive, a total of 990 Bryans have been identified as emigrating to the USA from Britain and Ireland. Of these, 700 of them were from Ireland and 806 of them emigrated via Liverpool, England to America.
