ModelKraft 2008

Milton Keynes Scale Model Club

The usual crew, David Hathaway, Mike Stamper, Doug Paper and myself enjoyed our fifth visit as guests of The Milton Keynes Scale Model Club at their annual show. This year the organisers had to find a new venue, The Stantonbury Leisure Centre, as the Bletchley Leisure Centre is closed for renovation. We were warned that with the smaller accommodation, we would have a smaller allocation of tables. We were certainly disappointed to find that we had only three, in comparison to eight tables last year.

We’ll forgive our hosts as it was the first event in a new venue, so I’m sure that they’ll get it right next year! The hall itself is smaller than Bletchley, but it is surrounded on three sides with balconies, wide enough to stand tables, where we were situated. There were also large areas off the balconies on the first and second floors.

A general view of our display on the balcony

Our feeling was that very pleasingly there was a much larger number of paying visitors than before. We were kept busy all day answering questions from people who were clearly surprised and impressed with our display.

Mike had the foresight to bring with him a folding table and annoyingly we found that there was a large empty space next to us which we could have used if we had more tables.

The star of the show, Mike’s superb and vast 5 feet long Prague Castle

Mike’s Chateau De Chenonceau by L’Instant Durable,. and the Canon Dragon.

David’s ever increasing Dockyard and warehouses.............

David’s build of Gunnar’s Sunnanvik cement freighter,
with the Danish ferrry Hvalpsund and Doug’s Lash barges.

My patch, with the soon to be published ‘Rack’ automata, and some old favourites

Some contented looking modellers at the end of a busy day, from left, Doug, Mike and myself. Note the empty space behind, we could have brought along more and doubled the size of our display!

Thanks again to our hosts, The Milton Keynes Scale Model Club don’t miss the excellent video slide show of the event on their site
