ModelKraft 2006

Milton Keynes Scale Model Club

5th February 2006

An event that the UK Card Modellers Group have attended for the previous two years. This year the group was comprised of Mike Stamper and daughter Jenny, David Hathaway, Graham Dixey, a welcome newcomer Rob Cairns, and myself.

The Milton Keynes Club is an IPMS affilliated group and this well organised event is attended by IPMS clubs in the area and by many traders. As in previous years, we were provided with four large tables situated in a busy area just outside the main hall. Once again, we used the opportunity to provide a diversion from the assembled ranks of plastic aircraft. Though I must say that there was some splendid work on display there, particularly the dioramas and figures.

Here’s a couple of pics, with the best supplied by Rob

David Hathaway’s end of the table, with his much admired Paper Shipwright display.

Mike’s corner, featuring that enormous Czech town, and Jenny’s numerous small models on the stand. These are mostly free downloads of figures, which our younger visitors curiously were able to identify...

This shows Graham’s superb Frauenkirche and a couple of my old favourites which regular viewers will recognise!

One of the models which caused considerable interest was Mike’s Stonehenge.

There’s some of Rob’s designs to be seen here, a Roman Villa and Methodist Church.

Our great delight was that we were presented with the award for the best club display. With not a plastic model to be seen!

We showed a rich, varied and colourful selection of paper models, which naturally created much interest. Having attended many shows on several previous occasions, we’ve developed some explanatory handouts which include useful website addresses. And there’s free giveaways for those who we think deserve it... We all had an enjoyable day engaged in conversation with prospective paper modellers, young and old alike.
