Class Act

Welcome to Class Act.

Who are we?

Class Act is an amateur dramatics and singing group based in Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire. The group was established in June 2000, and currently has around 20 members. Members come from all over South Lanarkshire, including Lesmahagow, Coalburn, Ashgill, Blackwood, Strathaven, Auchenheath and Douglas Water; a very diverse range of people from all areas, and all ages. There are no restrictions on age. We have one common purpose - to have fun and entertain others in the process. The group is always looking for new members, so why not come along one evening and try it out first hand. No previous acting or singing talent is required. All that is asked for is bucket-loads of enthusiasm and an ability to mix and muck in.

What do we do?

Since being established in 2000, the company have performed many times. Our first production was "When the Clock Strikes" in April 2001, which was a Dracula spoof. Then at Christmas 2002 the group performed a "Christmas Extravaganza". A spring concert in 2004 included small sketches and a variety of singing routines, much to the delight of the village.

In December 2004 the company put on its first pantomime, "Panto Gows West", a western mixture of Calamity Jane meets Annie Get Your Gun, with some Abbot and Costello thrown in. The pantomime was so successful that the company put on its second panto in December 2005. This time it was a specially adapted version of the firm favourite "Jack and the Beanstalk". December 2006 saw the group perform "Cinderella", and it was a sell out on both nights!

Class Act, in addition to the stage productions, also do concert parties with many members of the group attending various events throughout the region performing a selection of songs and verse. The concert parties usually last from 45 minutes to 1 hour, and the group provide this entertainment free of charge. (A small donation for company funds is appreciated.) Organisations that the group have entertained include guilds, pensioner clubs, and friendship groups, to name a few.

If you are a member of an organisation and would be interested in the group coming along one evening, then please contact the group (click here for contact details).
