Strictly speaking, they're not tornadoes but funnel clouds, as they didn't reach down to the ground. I spotted them on 19 August 2004, as I sat down to eat my tea and watch the weather forecast. The videos below are speeded up 15 times for more drama. Fortunately I already had my video camera set up on the tripod as I'd been filming clouds to make a stop-motion video. Later I e-mailed the BBC and they showed some of the footage on "Reporting Scotland" the next day. It had been raining for most of the last month, which is entirely uncharacteristic of Scottish weather. Usually we get a couple of sunny days in the summer.
