Page, Jesse - The Story of a Yellow Rose, Told by Herself [the rose, that is]. Religious Tract Society (RTS), not dated, 1890s? Little Dot Series. 6" x 4¼", 64pp plus 1 plate, blue cloth, black and gold blocking, 1¾" x 2½" colour onlay on front-board, hardback. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece (quite attractive; not quite as puke-inducing as most Victorian children's illustrations); plus 3 monochrome vignettes to prelims. Case detached; some signs of previous damp in places to boards (no internal damp); 'dusty'; staples rusted but no staining and still sound; 2¾" tear to title-page (now repaired with filmoplast); the odd fox spot; good only, text-block sound and clean, no wrapper.

Paine, Thomas - Rights of Man: Being an Answer to Mr Burke's Attack on the French Revolution. Parts 1 and 2 bound together. H. D. Symonds, 1792. 7½" x 4½", 178pp (total), half-leather with marbled boards, hardback. Front board detached, boards and leather very rubbed, Victorian ins. on front prelim that has also been cut (2" x 4") at the top to reveal the title above the ins., paper toned, one tiny (¼"), old, single, worm attack at the foot near spine inside back board, sound.

Pinnock - Pinnock's First Steps to Knowledge: History of England. T. J. Allman, 1864. Comprises loads of short questions and answears (Q.What is Great Britain?; A. An Island; Q. What is an Island?; A. Land surrounded by water). 5¼" x 3½", 62pp, paperback. Illustrated with small head and shoulder drawings. May lack a frontispiece? (I've been unable to discover if it should have one but the pagination suggests it might); creased; contents detached after title-page; covers 'dusty'; name and date written at top of front-cover; some internal pencil marking; poor.

Prothero~Lewis, Helen - Hooks of Steel. Hutchinson, 3rd edition, not dated, inscribed 1898. 7½" x 4¾", 368pp plus 4 plates, red buckram blocked in black, silver and gold, hardback. All edges gilt. School-pirze bookplate on front paste-down, internal front-hinge weak/split, internally clean, fairly solid.

Puckle, James - The Club or A Gray Cap for a Green Road. 'A dialogue between a father and son interspersed with characters, containing maxims, advice and cautions. Go little book, and show the fool his face, the kanve his picture, and the sot his case; tell to each youth what is, and what's not fit. And teach, to such as want, sobriety and wit.'. Chiswick Press (C. Whittingham), 1834 edition (originally published in this form in 1733). 6¾" x 4", 152pp, brown cloth, hb. Contains, at the back, a very interesting 24pp illustrated 'Catalogue of Embellished Books' printed by the Chiswick press. Illustrated with head-and tail-piece wood engravings by Thurston, engraved by others (listed at the back). wear to head and foot of spine, cloth at spine and front-board split from top to about two-thirds down, then accross, froming a 'flap'; top-edge 'dusty'; front-free endpaper cut away; water damage to first page and title-page only; neat name stamp on front-page and back free-endpaper, some sections very looose; pages 33-36 somewhat 'grubby'; internally generally clean.
