King & Son, 1898. 9" x 5ž", x + lxxviii + 384 + viii + 460pp + 1 plate, dark-blue buckram, gold blocking, blind edge-rule, hardbacks. Top-edges gilt. Illustrated with a monochrome photogravure portrait of Nicholls. Spines sunned; wear to head/foot of spines; slight edge-wear; slight patches to buckram that you virtually always get with buckram; slight edge-foxing; water marks to frontis plate but these would appear to be during the printing process as there are no such marks to the book; a few pages of volume 1 uncut, about one-quarter of the pages of volume 2 uncut (uncut pages probably indicate the books have never been read); good, solid, sound copies; no wrappers.

Spine sunned; slight edge-wear; internal hinges weak (paper split, still fairly well held by tapes and webbing); some light pencilled annotation; a few ink spots; good, serviceable copy, no wrapper.
