Front-board detached; spine detached; back-board virtually detached, held by a couple of threads only (probably is detached by now); general board edge-wear/rubbing; free ednpapers loose; 2 plates missing, 1 plate wrongly bound; pages 55-58 missed stitching at lower-half and are a little 'dusty' along front edges; some of page 215/216 has stuck to parts (mostly the hair) of its facing litho [as chromos often do], damaging both (see photos); tear across top-inside corner of page 351/352; page 801/802 loose, wragged and a bit dusty; unrelated, I think, 3˝" x 4˝" company return address label? attached to both paste-downs as the previous owner's address label; the usual odd spots here and there but text generally clean and sound; good only but text is complete [lacks 2 plates] (no wrapper).

Slight wear to leather; light, old, damp damage to front edges of boards to volume 2, no internal effect (see photo); ghost image from internal colour chromo on facing page and a tiny loss spec to left of left eye, but in superb condition compared with usual state of this plate (which is stuck to facing page with consequent damage); what appears to be a small coco splash to centre of pages 353 to 388 (decreasing to full-stop size on page 388) plus plate a bit further on; slight endpaper browning; usual odd fox spot(s); plate that should face page 471 has been used as a frontispiece for volume 2; overall in really good, nice and clean condition. Usually bound as 1 volume; binding it in 2 makes it much more handelable; unusual.

Lacks 10 plates, never bound (not removed); spine sunned; slight board marks; slight corner-rounding;slight endpaper browning; very, very slight evidence of water mark to top-front corners of about the first-half of the book but no internal effect; the odd fox spot; very good munus, sound, clean copy (no wrapper).

Minsters covered are Durham, York, lincoln, Ely, St Albans, St Paul's and Canterbury. 8ź" x 6", 354pp plus 12 plates, grey-green cloth, front-board and spine blocked with an illustation, red blocked lettering, hardback. Illustrated with 12 colour paintings. Spine sunned, edge-wear, slight rubbing to back-board, corners rounded, front hinge weak, slight endpaper browning, the odd fox spot; externally good, internally generally very good, NO wrapper. Quite a reasonable copy.

Small 'flap' at head of spine; spine fixed to text-block, does not function as one would expect but does not appear to be a repair?; edge-wear; white 'marks' to front-edges of both corner leathers of front-board; bookplate on front paste-down; foxing at ends; usual light foxing in places; good, reasonably solid copy (no wrapper).
