Nadel, Barbara - Petrified. Headline, reprint. Summer in Istanbul is hot. The kind of heat that drives even the sanest of people to act a little strangely and, for Cetin Ikmen, this summer is no different... An elderly woman is found dead in a flat with the perfectly preserved body of a young man. In an ancient part of the Jewish quarter, two children are missing. Their father, and artist whose genius borders on insanity, only seems more driven in his work. And a raid on a Russian gangster yields nothing except the dead body of a girl he claims is his daughter. Coul the connection to all cases lie in a macabre forgotten art? (back cover). 344pp standard paperback. 3 faint spine creases; remannts of label on front-cover; slight edge-wear; very good (no inscriptions, not ex-library).

Newby, P. H. - A Guest and His Going. Cape. Newby, P. H. - A Guest and His Going. Cape/Book Society, 1959 (1st thus). The many readers who enjoyed Newby's Egyptian novels will remember the eccentric and patriotic Muawiya, who has now been invited to London as a guest of the British Council. At a time when the maritime powers are busy inventing the Canual User's Association at Lancaster House, Muawiya jeopadises Anglo-Egyptian relation further by appropriating a car and driving it furiously (unlicensed and uninsured) until it is smashed up in Park Lane. He eludes the police; takes refuge in the Egyptian Embassy; emerges from sanctuary to give a party; publicly debates the motion 'All men are brothers'; and finally orates at Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park. Muawiya with his lunatic logic is only one of many strands woven into a story that is none the less serious for its light-hearted telling. (prelim). 7¾" x 5", 256pp, bottle-green paper (I think) with orange and white spine blocking, hardback. A few slight edge-fox spots; very good (no inscriptions, no bumps, not ex-library) complete with very good minus (edge-wear) wrapper.

Nicol, Abioseh - The Truly Married Woman and Other Stories. Oxford University Press, 1965, 1st. Contents: The Truly Married Woman; The Devil at Yolahum Bridge; The Judge's Son; Love's Own Tears; As the Night, the Day; The Leopard Hunt; and, Life is Sweet at Kumansenu.... are all set against an African background. In four of them where children are the central characters the author displays a keen and sensitive knowledge of the agonies, joys, and embarassments which children draw from small events; and in the three stories where adults play the central part in events which to them, perhaps, seem more important he is no less perceptive. This gentle irony of observation and the enexpected twist at the end of each story makes this collection very entertaining reading. ... (back cover). 7¼" x 4¾", 120pp, paperback. Illustrated with monochrome drawings by J. H. Wandi. Covers slightly 'dusty'; very slight edge-wear; 'nick' to top-edge of page 21/22; very good (no inscriptions, practically no 'corner-curling', not ex-library).
