St Mary's Battersea, A Church with an open heart and an open mind

Money Matters

The Challenge

The common misconception is that the church is rich. The Church of England receives no funding from the State and relies entirely on its members to fund it.

We have to fund all expenses for the parish including staff salaries, mission, music, children’s work, outreach and our allocation of the Fairer Shares scheme helping poorer parishes in less well off parts of London.

We still have to pay the monthly expenses irrespective of who happens to be there.

What can you do?

We need to increase our income dramatically by £45,000 p.a. (that's £3,750 per month) in order to cover our expenses and continue our ministry at the present level.

Only 1 in 4 of our congregation commit to a regular amount each month. If 60 new donors gave £50 per month by gift aid we could reach our target.
If every member of the scheme increased their giving by 5% that would raise almost £5000 towards our target.

If 100 people made a one-off annual gift-aided donation of £100 that would £12,500 '

The Bible recommends that each person gives 10% (a tithe) of disposable income to charity. The Church of England recommends that half of this tithe, 5% of disposable income, should be given to your church.
