Pastoral Care at St Mary's

A listening Ear
S
Life can be very challenging, and we are always available either for a quick chat or for more sustained help and support to anyone facing difficulty.
If you would like to talk through some personal matter in a confidential and non-judgmental setting, or would like us to pray with you or for you or for a friend, or if you would like the ministry of the laying on of hands, anointing or confession, then please contact one of the Ministry Team.

The Pastoral Network
S
St Mary’s family principally gets together on a Sunday. Many individuals and families have their own commitments, and choose to worship with us perhaps one weekend in two or three. If you add in holidays, Bank Holiday weekends and so on, it is easy to have only quite infrequent contact with each other, even if you attend regularly.

Some people, who may have been coming to St Mary’s for years, obviously know each other better. Yet many of us are surprised when we hear of another’s illness (or good news), through the grape-vine or from St Mary’s News.

To try and overcome these issues we see the congregation in terms of geographical areas. Each geographical area has one or two “coordinators” who are aware of members of St Mary’s who live nearby. In this way, new members of the church can be introduced to others who live near them.  If there is an illness or bereavement within an area, or someone requires a lift to Church, it may be that others who live locally can offer practical help or support.

Areas plan the occasional get-together – but otherwise there is no need to “participate” in a sense. The overall aim is that being associated with an area and being aware of one or two key people will be useful, informal and a support to all.
How to get 'on the map'

If you like the idea of the network and would like to be more involved talk to Alison Wintgens or anyone else in church. Get someone to introduce you to the co-ordinators in your area, perhaps over coffee after the 11 o’clock service.

Aims

1. To see the congregation in terms of areas according to where you live
2. To have a greater chance of meeting others who worship at St Mary’s and live near you
3. To look out for one another a little more
4. To welcome newcomers more easily
5. To offer help more locally if someone needs support
6. To host an annual Sunday lunch
