Join a local choir
St Mary's Choir is a small and friendly group of people who enjoy singing a wide variety of music. We sing for the church services at 11 am, and at a number of special events every year, including the Advent and Christmas Carol Services, a Passiontide evening of music and a series of concerts.
Choir practice takes place at the Church on Wednesday nights at 7.30 pm, and on Sunday mornings at 9.45 am. Newcomers are always made welcome.
Ancient and Modern
Music ranges from Tudor church music of the 16th Century to exciting modern works and new compositions, for example the choir
recently sang a modern work “Prayers and Dancers of Praise from Africa” accompanied by a
5 octive marimba duet as part of our Harvest Sunday service on October 15th.

Children's
Choir
A children's choir is open to all children old enough to hold a tune (usually from about 7 yrs old) and is an excellent introduction to singing, reading music, rhythm and music theory as well as developing personal confidence and the joy of making music in a group.
It practices on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and with the adult choir on Sunday mornings. The children’s choir join in many of the adult events and occasionally sing on their own.

Play a musical instrument
On the first Sunday of every month the music at the 11am service is accompanied by a small band of a very mixed and wide range of musical instruments – ranging from recorders, violins and flutes, to a
trombone and a bassoon! The band plays a wide variety of popular as well as religious music, including instrumental solos before and during the service, music for the hymns and playing a specially arranged voluntary at the end. If you play an instrument (a high standard is really not necessary as the music is individually arranged for each person’s age and ability) and would like a refresher, then do please contact Mary.
