  Famous Historical Figures   
St Mary's is connected with a number of famous or noteworthy people.  William Blake was married here, JMW Turner painted here, Benedict Arnold died here, and William Curtis collected samples for his plaints in the church.  In addition, Simon Patrick, Vicar of Battersea (1657-75) went on to be bishop of Ely, and John Erskine Clark, the founder of most of the Church of England parishes in other parts of Battersea was Vicar here from 1872 to 1908.
