Elizabeth I (1533 - 1603)

Elizabeth appears here as an elderly woman, her grey hair braided with pearls.  Her presence is due ot the fact that the John St John who donated the window in 1631-2 married a woman, Anne Leighton, who was descended from the family stock that produced Elizabeth I's mother, Anne Boleyn.  It was a significant connection which John St John was not shy to stress.
