My Little Home-made Street Organ.

Me with my wife Patty on the beach at Cleethorpes.

Hello I'm Phil - a middle aged Sheffield bloke with a thing for street organs.
I have never had the money to buy and maintain a real pipe organ, so I designed and made
my own little electro-pneumatic one powered by an old Hoover! (listen to the sound files below).
To cut a long story short, I designed and made everything, including the chests, motors (bellows) and all the pipes.
There are 37 stopped wooden pipes (1 rank, 3 octaves) and it is played by midi files via a midi controller.
I didn't have any plans or instructions. I just used the experience I gained some years ago
when I helped to install, maintain and tune a large theatre organ here in Sheffield.

It consists of 2 small chests (main chest on the left, bass chest on the right).
I purposely designed it so it would take up as little space as possible (the main
chest has only a 15" x 9" footprint, the bass chest has just a 10" x 6" footprint).

The chests, pipes and electrics sit side by side in one of our kichen cupboards!
The whole thing takes up very little space, with the added bonus that I can
open and close the cupboard door to regulate the volume! *arf! arf!*

If you haven't done so already, you can listen to it by selecting the tunes below.
You're welcome to with any questions, thoughts etc.
