Parish Pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. Chad, Chadkirk, Romiley, Stockport
in Celebration of the 10th Anniversary
of the Deanery
and in honour of St. Chad
On Saturday 12th March the community of St. Aidan
went on pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. Chad in Chadkirk, Romiley,
Stockport. This pilgrimage formed part of the 10th ongoing
anniversary
celebrations of the foundation of the Antiochian Orthodox Deanery The Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Chapel
followed by the blessing of the well and sprinkling. This
was the first time an Orthodox Liturgy had been celebrated in the area since
the saint evangelised this part of the kingdom of Mercia in the 7th century. This delightful shrine and spring in a pleasant
rural setting has a long history going back beyond the structure we see
today dating from the 14th century to what we may suppose to be
the original hermitage cell of the itinerant St. Chad in the 7th
century. The traditions associated with St. Chad in the Stockport are very
strong as witnessed by the names of two of its districts:- Chadkirk and
Cheadle. Certainly, the Church has honoured the saint locally for many
centuries.
More information about the chapel, including
directions, can be acquired from this web page belonging to Stockport
Metropolitan Borough Council who now administer the Chapel.:-

of this chapel for this pilgrimage.
