Ephrem Carrasco was born in 1967 and grew up in Salford north west England U.K. Growing up he always had an interest in art. After visiting Greece several times he was baptised in 1989 at the monastery of St. Ephrem in Attika. Heading straight to Mount Athos he took his first steps in the holy art of iconography with the monks of the Katounakia cells. Later he went to Athens to train and work alongside an icongrapher in the churches of Athens.
In 1991 Ephrem returned to the U.K. for two years where he worked painting icons and his work became influenced by the new wave of Russian iconographers he encountered there. Returning to Greece he spent seven years in the monastery of St. Arsenios of Cappadocia, Halkidiki, where he worked mainly in the icon workshop producing panel icons for the monastery, churches around Greece and for the homes of the faithful. Ephrem is now living and working in the north west of England and is a member of the parish of St. Aidan of Lindisfarne.
