Vantaa, Finland 20/06/2000 Tonight in the "Golden Javelin" event in Vantaa, Finland's Aki Parviainen the current World Javelin Champion threw a new world leading mark of 90.80 metres in the third round to win the event. The previous season's best of 90.59 metres was set by Jan Zelezny in Pretoria on 24th March. In second place with 87.93 metres was Konstadinos Gatsioudis of Greece, the world championship silver medallist who had beaten Parviainen in their first encounter of the season last week in the Ericsson Grand Prix in Helsinki. In third place was Patrik Boden of Sweden with a throw of 83.76 metres. The city of Vantaa is one of two smaller cities, the other's being Espoo, which combined with the Finnish capital city of Helsinki, make up the larger metropolitan area of Helsinki.
