The View from our apartment, Jardin Paraiso in Playa del Cura,

P1280001.jpg (179108 bytes)

The View from our apartment, Jardin Paraiso in Playa del Cura, just outside Puerto Rico.  Cura is a fantastic place, good facilities without being tacky, but watch out for the smiley soft-rock bar-tender at the Wild West Bar.....the sign over his door says 'You will be back', guaranteed after his generous  vodka measures and late night tequila freebies. Mucho sickio...

The Grounds of our apartment, very clean, green and pleasant

View from our balcony with sun setting over the Atlantic. Nice.....

us.JPG (55908 bytes)

Us! Enjoying the sun and Cafes of Puerto Morgan on Market day. The Market itself was big with a wide range of stalls with everything from trousers belts to life size Leopard ornaments...ideal for those gifts back home!

Trip to the Mountains

P1290003.jpg (183516 bytes)

Hired a Jeep  and went for a ride round the mountain roads. Majestic views of the volcanic area with loads of high ridges and spires.

fatagaview.JPG (163125 bytes)

Nice view from Fataga

attop.JPG (67265 bytes)

It gets very cool (bloody freezing!) at the top, consequently didn't hang around at the 2000m summit Tejeda!  Stall holders selling fleeces at the top cried out "You are stuuuuuuupid!" as we dashed past in shorts and t-shirts; think they thought they had a sale.

IP1290016.jpg (61240 bytes)

The restaurant at the top had a varied cuisine! Note the No's 23 & 24 of the meat section! There did not seem to be very many young people around........spooky!

P1310024.JPG (256089 bytes)

The scene from the door of the plane, right over the island.

P1310023.JPG (147776 bytes) at about 2000m P1310033.JPG (186356 bytes)

Inside at about 2750m

P1310025.JPG (180644 bytes) 3000m nearing jump altitude! Fantastic view from door.
P1310032.JPG (184432 bytes) 3200m ready to go! P1310035.JPG (241354 bytes)   tandemlanding.JPG (15038 bytes) Nearly down...text book landing I might add
Rob says: Unfortunately I was unable to take pictures on the way down - other things on mind!! The first picture of Rob in flight was therefore taken by Ali on the ground (as camera was handed over by german parachutist as soon as he landed).... you can just see the canopy at the top. Immediately after jumping I went into a spin and could see the plane disappearing "upwards" at an incredible rate. When we got the dive position stable it felt like we were flying (at 120mph downwards! ) We got 38 seconds of freefall before the chute was opened. What an unbelievable experience!

The jump and the 30 minutes training cost £100 or 30,000ptas -  I would definitely do it again.

P1310039.JPG (200580 bytes)

Pretty chuffed!

jumpcert.JPG (50525 bytes) My Certificate -very proud!

Ali says: Very nervous watching tiny plane buzz overhead following by small white bundle hurting towards the ground, with man next me saying "Ooooooooohhhhh, that is your boyfriend!". Seemed like ages before big red and yellow chute opened. Very relieved! Chute and passengers drifted down slowly (thought I might be landed on!) with Rob wearing biggest smile ever!!!! He not normalo....

For more details, times and prices etc., call the Paraclub de Gran Canaria on (00 34) 928 773300. I think there are two clubs at the same airfield, both drop on to Maspolamas Dunes. One link is below the other is at the bottom.

P2020047.JPG (191404 bytes) Playa del Cura from the boat (named, interestingly, Salmon). Our apartment, bottom right.

Overall we were very pleased with our holiday, with everything so cheap over there and at £150 each - who's complaining!
