    Hobbies & Interests

    The books I read are mainly computer related; plus I also read a lot of magazines on computing and the internet such as Personal Computer World, and The Internet Magazine. I find that these magazines help keep me up to date with advances in technology.  I have to confess that I am a Harry Potter fan, and that I have read all 5 books published so far.

    I am very competitive by nature; not just with others but also with myself, and I will try anything once. I enjoy ten-pin bowling, Snooker or pool, chess (although I'm not very good at it), and play computer games. I enjoy playing tactical strategy games mostly such as "Command & Conquer" and "War Craft".  I haven't played much sport since I left college, and you don't get much exercise sat at a computer all day.  At the start of 2003 I joined the local David Lloyd's leisure centre, and I have so far lost 9.5kg. 

    As I spend a lot time with computers I like to keep my weekends family orientated. My 3 children keep me very busy entertaining them at the weekends. I also do a lot of DIY. I come from a farming background, so I like practical activities.

     

    Personal Statement

    I am an energetic, dedicated worker, willing to work in an intensely competitive environments, capable of accomplishing tasks unsupervised or as a member of a team. I would say I'm strongly motivated with excellent analytical skills; easily approachable, outgoing friendly personality, together with a dedicated attitude. I am eager to learn and advance my personal skills in any environment.

    Although I have a degree in accounting and finance I did not actively pursuing a career in accountancy due to my interest in computers.  My career movements and skills development have always been focused on transferring myself into the world of IS. Apart from my PeopleSoft training, all of my computer skills are self tort.  I want to study some of the programming languages that I'm interested in (e.g. VB, Visual C++, ASP, etc.). My multi-industry skills make me an ideal candidate for functional support and development projects; especially were a strong understanding of business practices is required.  A lot of the positions that I have held have been functional orientated  With my interest in development, I am now looking to build upon the PeopleSoft technical training that I have to become more involved in projects at the development level.

    I have always enjoyed learning new material, and the feeling of achievement is what I believe drives my desire to succeed. I have a high capacity to adapt and acquire new skills quickly.     bullet Day-to-Day Administration - The day-to-day administration covers a wide range tasks; from the configuration of new chartfields/business units, to the checking/scheduling of over night batch jobs. I currently administer the following modules:

    People often under estimate documentation, but it essential and overlaps with over topics like development, day-to-day administration, etc. It can take two minutes to make a change, and entire week to work out why you made the change if it isn't documented correctly.

    Training End-Users - I give internal functional support to the end-user on all aspects of system functionality and performance. Because of my finance degree I find it relatively easy to personalise training to individual user needs. It is essential for me to guide the end-user in their requirement to input, process and extract financial data on the system; and establish/promote system best practices.

    bullet Troubleshooting - You need the technical ability to be able separate complex concatenated, multithreaded problems (i.e. the problem may be with the OS, not PeopleSoft, or a combination of both). Plus, the ability to follow up the technical analysis by communicating a clear resolution to the support team and affected parties. A large part of my role involves not only controlling resolutions, but also controlling and co-ordinating the different teams involved in development of resolutions/fixes/enhancements. Finding the correct source to any system problems is not always easy as there are a lot of different pieces of software interacting (i.e. NT, UNIX, Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc).
    bullet Development - My strong project skills provide me with a firm foundation for development work. Development encompasses all of the above, which to me makes development work so satisfying as you have your fingers in a lot 'pies' all at once.
