Gambia - Transport

Transport is in abundance in The Gambia. Buses, Mini buses, converted vans and taxis. Serekunda is the hub for transport to anywhere. Mini buses go to Serekunda from near the Hotel Senegambia, passing by the Palma Rima and Mango Tree. From Bakau, passing close by the football stadium, along Kairaba Avenue, passing restaurants and supermarkets. From Fajara, along Kairaba Avenue. From Serekunda to just about everywhere, including The Casamance. Of course you don't have to go to Serekunda. You pay your three Dalasis and get out anywhere you want along the way.

From Bakau or Serekunda to Banjul and visa-versa costs four Dalasis. To get to Abuko you can go on an organized trip from a tourist hotel and pay around £20.00 to £30.00, ($30.00 - $45.00) or you go to Serekunda and take transport to Brikama, pay D5 and ask the driver to drop you at Abuko. Pay the entrance fee (currently D10) spend a few hours in the reserve and on leaving, stand by a shady tree and put your hand out every time a vehicle approaches. Sooner or later one will stop and charge you D4 to go to Serekunda. If you are staying around Senegambia or Bakau, your day out will have cost you less than £2.00, or $3.00.

CAR HIRE
