Gambia - Travelling Around
This section gives a brief description of several
places. To see more about any particular place click on the relevant icon. Some
detail is given about getting to The Gambia but is limited to my knowledge of travel
from the UK. Any useful information from other travellers will be
welcome.
On this site you will find lots of information about getting around on the cheap. If that doesn't appeal to you and yet you would rather spend money in the local community, rather than with your European tour operator, then sources of local transport (with driver) can be found at: http://go.to/asset This site gives access to different types of accommodation in Gambia. From small hotels to large houses for rent. You might just find the place you want here.
The Gambia has something for everyone. Miles of golden sands
and almost constant sunshine during the main tourist season. That is not to say there
won't be sunshine out of season. On the contrary, most days in the rainy season
have some sunshine. The rains tend to arrive in the mornings or early evening but
not every day. Clouds have been seen over The Gambia between November and
June but normally at this time of the year it's just blue skies and a gentle breeze. The
Gambia is just perfect for a beach holiday.
Those feeling a bit more adventurous
may consider a trip up country, known locally as The provences. Transport
could not be easier, whether you travel with the locals in the bush taxis and buses, or
whether you arrange your travel with one of the many safari vehicles that are for hire,
you will reach your destination safely. There are many places to stay if your trip is to
be more than one day. See the accommodation section for hotels and rest houses.
The area known as the Kombos is where most of the tourist hotels are
situated. There are also a number of interesting villages in easy reach of this area.
Go to Sukuta or Sanyang and meet the locals in their own environment. Go to Abuko, the nature reserve only half an hour from most
hotels. The Gambia is a favorite haunt of bird watchers. I'm no expert on our
feathered friends but there certainly are some beautiful exotic species in The
Gambia.

Gambia from other countries would be welcome.
