If you are a UK citizen then the British High Commission is situated on Atlantic Road between Bakau and Fajara, opposite the "Medical Research Center" (MRC). Help is available for lost passports, the emergency transfer of funds or to visit you in custody, if necessary. Running out of money would not constitute an "emergency" during your stay.
An easy way for UK residents to get hold of funds quickly is to arrange for the sender in UK to phone Guardship (UK) Tel: 020-8297-9000 for their bank details, transfer the amount you wish to send into their Barclay's account then fax the receipt to 020-8297-9898 phone to check that the receipt has been received and ask when the monies will be available in Gambia, usually the following day. I use this method on a regular basis.
