December 2000

Arriva Derby.
*

First Leicester.
* It appears that more Volvo B6's are on the way from the big city !
* First-Bus are planning a corporate livery for the older vehicles in their fleets so the smart White/Green/Yellow might be short lived !
* It Seems that there is a slight difference in some of the new Repaints. Dominator 91 Has a solid Yellow band (painted) on the lower pannels but all the rest of the fleet have Yellow that fades gradually into the white (using transfers).

Arriva Fox County.
* Despite being used as a "bus" for most of it's time now, Volvo Coach 3236 found itself on top-link National Express work on Monday 11th december covering for a classmate on the 440.
* Volvo B10BLE 2607 has lost part of it's route branding so now it seems to only go as far as Cosby (the other Six go to Broughton Astley !)
* Scania K92 Decker now has a dual role as School Bus and Driver trainer.
* Ex Northumbria Bova 3231 Has been noted on the Marks & Spencer free shuttle instead of 2207/8.

First Northampton.

* New Galleries Added.

November 2000

Arriva Derby.
* Arriva Derby has a new Dennis Dart SLF / Alexander ALX200 - X252 HBC route branded, and in service on the 60/61/68/69/69A group of services (as per the previous batch - of which only 226 and 227 have no such route branding). "Dale"

First Leicester.
* Repainting into the new livery seems to have slowed to a stop with only Mercedes 506 being noted recently repainted.
* The last of the trio of First Capital mini's to enter service (733) is now at work on "Line 17"
* Seen today (31/10/00), freshly painted in First Leicester's new white/green/yellow livery was C930 GYD - a Fd Transit/Do ex First Southern National which is being used on "Crew Shuttle" Duties. "Dale"

Arriva Fox County.
* Currently at work in full NORTHUMBRIA livery is Leyland Tiger / Paramount 3200 EDZ215 (ex RMO203Y) which started life working for Reading. This vehicle can normaly be found on X67 & X40 routes.
* Mercedes mini 1339 G301RJA Has been noted around Leicester a lot recently presumed transferred from Coalville.

First Northampton.
*

General.
* XIB3473 Wood's rare Plaxton Bustler bodied Volvo has gone to pastures new and is now working for Silverdale of New Stevenston, Lanarkshire.
* More news of the other ex Leicester Falcons that last operated with Islwyn is that XJF91Y, XJF93Y & A95FRY have been scrapped and A94FRY has passed to a dealer.
* The prototype Dennis Falcon/Duple Dominant, PJU90W, illustrated in this month's "Buses" (and on the cover of Geoffrey Hilditch's classic 1981 book, "A further look at buses"), is up for sale again. It was first operated by Leicester City Transport and has since passed through a number of hands. As seen in "Buses" it was with the latter day Stratford Blue, but has since returned to Stephensons of Rochford.
We would like it to go to a good home, perhaps in preservation, given its history. It is fully tested and ready to run at £2,750 + VAT. Anyone interested (or you can make an intro to preservationists in Leicester), please e-mail Richard Delahoy at richard@signal-training.com
* It appears that Anstey Buslines has started competing against First Leicester on their short, but busy, route 21 between the City Centre and Rushey Mead. At least 2 (possibly 3) Anstey Buslines double deckers are in service during school hours. For those with long memories this is one of the routes that Kinch also operated some years ago in competition with Leicester Citybus (as it was then) "Dale".
* Hylton & Dawson HDZ 102 (the recently acquired bus like D603 RGJ) has the same Route 94 'Grey Line' branding. "Dale"

October 2000

Arriva Derby.
*

First Leicester.
* Scania's 351/4 are yet more to Lose "Red Route 38" Branding (Have you got any better glue First Bus ?).
* Volvo B7 218 has been used on some unusual workings lately appearing on Route 38 on the 5th and on Route 14 on the 17th. Not to be outdone ex Glasgow Olympian 187 was also on Route 14 on the 5th instead of a baby Volvo B6. "Dale"

Arriva Fox County.
* Registration No. MSU433 latterly on Leyland National 2152 has re-appeared, this time on ex Northumbria Bova 3231 which has also gained Foxhound Coach Livery (Though still has National Express Logo's either side of the destination gear !).

First Northampton.
*

General.
* New with Confidence is C248 CKH a Leyland Tiger with Plaxton Bodywork ex Hornsby, Scunthorpe. Some of the ex Barton Leopards have been repainted in the "Midland Red Coach" style Red/Black livery.
* Noted with Woods recently is M231SGS a Mercedes-Benz minibus with Marshall bodywork. "Dale"
* Roumurs are going around that the D9's are now coming New Years Eve and it will be just a flying visit !. This seems a bit strange as all the shops will be shut very few (if any) buses will be running and most people will either be at home or down the Pub ! ! !. If anyone has any definate info can they let me know.

September 2000

Arriva Derby.
*

First Leicester.
* Scania L113 346 has lost it's "Red Line" Branding already.
* Every route except the "Purple Line" now has at least one dedicated bus.
* After a false start with the red and blue scheme a good start has been made repainting vehicles into the better recieved white/green/yellow with "home grown" 88/91,152,503,622 some of the first to be done. But preference in the paintshop seems to be with aquired vehicles which are currently in coats of many colours with 183/4/6/90/1,427/31/3,731-3 already done. Most also recieved route branding at the same time.
* Two of the three ex Capital citybus Mercedes minis have recently entered service looking very smart in the new livery.
* First Leicester is to be revamped as "Leicester Metro" another of the First Group's Overground schemes.

Arriva Fox County.
* After a brief stay of a year Olympian 4534 has departed to pastures new.
* Anyone wishing to take photos of vehicles in non arriva colours should do so sooner rather than later. Apart from vehicles normally used on school runs ect there are only three Deckers still in Red/Yellow (1 @ Coalville and 2 @ Wigston) and 10 (All at Wigston) still in Urban Fox Blue. As far as single deckers are concerned Southgates still has 5 greenways in Urban Blue and on the minibus front there are about a dozen each of both "Fox" Red/Yellow & "Urban" blue (mostly based out in the sticks !). And just for the record there are 18 "Mobile Billboards" out and about also.
* The Rare Scania K92 double decker 4150 has been used by the Training School recently following the loss of its school contract.
* Also recently added to the Training bus fleet is "2137" F275AWW a Leyland Lynx which came from Arriva Yorkshire.
* The Fox Cab taxi operation has been sold and has vacated Southgates depot.
* The Mercedes-Benz Citario on loan is W179BVP. It is mostly used on the X40 Lutterworth and X67 Coventry services. It does cause a little confusion as it's colour scheme is very similar to the First Bus "barbie" livery.
* Another ex Mersey Titan to put in an appearance is GYE271W which is being used as a parts donor at Hinkley. For the record the other ones that have turned up for various reasons are CUL160V, EYE245V & KYV413X.

First Northampton.
*

General.
* Ausden Clark have recently aquired AVK 169V a Leyland Atlantean with Alexander bodywork which started life on Tyneside. "DALE"
* Not to be outdone by the Firstbus revamp.... Hylton & Dawson D603 RGJ is now route branded for the 94 and has 'Grey Line' on it's cove panels. "DALE"
* G112TND a Mercedes-Benz 811D / Carlyle B31F is being used by Wide Horizon (Clarke), Hinkley.

August 2000

Arriva Derby.
* In service with Arriva Derby are Ds Dt SLF/Ar ALX200 B40F W226-9/31-6/8-9 SNR (2226 etc). There may well be others. Apart from 2226/7 all were route branded for the 60/61/68/69/69A group which serve the Cheddleston corridor. "Dale"
* Fox County Merc 1362 G124TJA has turned up here.

First Leicester.
* First Mainline S534UAK a Dennis Dart SLF has been on loan in exchange for a Volvo B7 decker.
* All the dozen ex First Glasgow Olympians are now in service.

Arriva Fox County.
* A Mercedes Citario low floor bus is on loan.
* Noted in store at Stamford on 23rd august were Ex Arriva London Volvo/Alexander dd's F106/8/9/12TML (going to Merseyside eventually), Ex Arriva Merseyside Titan KYV413X and ex Derby Fleetlines GTO48V, GTO302V, MTV314W which have spent the past year or so based here but are no longer on the fleetlist.
* Also lying around stamford on the same day was the complete operational fleet (20/1, 153, 4478/80/1/6/7, 4534) and 1116 which might have been standing in for 1356.
* Contary to Reports elsewhere, Olympian 4534 has not been renumbered 4475.
* OHE 274X is the coach mentioned below. It is a Leyland Tiger / Duple Dominant 1V previously The Shires (Colchester) 4302. Thanx to "Andrew"
* D9's to Return (see index page).
* A Duple Dominant 1V coach in Arriva livery poss reg OHE---X has been noted on the X40.

First Northampton.
* First Leicester 188 has been on loan.

General.
* The first of Woods ex plymouth mercs noted reregistered is J218KTT now AHZ5196.
* Latif coaches has ceased trading and the South Leicester link is now operated by Woods. This route was significant as one of the first in Leicestershire to be registered by a independant operator after deregulation and Latif has operated it throughout, at first using an ex Midland Fox Transit and then a new Mercedes.
* Woods coaches now have a three ex Plymouth Mercedes Mini's, J207/15/18KTT (some/all might have been reregistered by now).

JULY 2000

Arriva Derby.

First Leicester.
* First Glasgow Ds Dorchester/Ar C47F A205 UYS Is currently in the depot.
* 184 & 427 are latest repaints into the "Lemon & Lime" Livery.

* Mercedes mini 725 has been noted in yorkshire after a very brief stay here.
* Seen on the M1 northbound near Sheffield were First Leicester Ds Falcon's 629 (C109 SDX) - NC and 631 (YDX 100Y). They looked suspicously close to Barnsley (scrapyards or dealers?) - although both under their own power!! Thanx to "DALE" 4 this info.
* In Leicester depot are J631-3 HMH ex First Capital (Citybus) - MB 811/Ar B28F - presumably acquired. Thanx to "DALE" 4 this info.
* Ex First Glasgow Volvo Olympian/Alexander RL P180-2/6-91TGD are now at work. All except 186 are in allover Red.
* Dominator (91), Volvo B6 (431) Olympian (186) are in a new livery of White with dark green roof & skirt and lime green stripe. (431 does not have the lime green stripe at present)

Arriva Fox County.
* Hinkley coach 3022 has been working out of Thurmaston recently.
* Leyland National 2152 has reverted to it's original reg No. of STW18W after running as MSU433 for a number of years.
* Since the end of May Fox County have had the National Express contract for route 348 Leicester-Oxford-Bristol. Timekeeping has been a bit eratic and it remains to be seen if it will continue to run in the winter timetable. Also during the summer Fox County also have National Express contracts to Blackpool on fridays & saturdays. Recently aquired Bova Futura 3141/2 can often be seen on these services.
* Due to the Continuing shortage of drivers at Thurmaston several minibus routes are being reworked to make them more reliable. A recent fleet shuffle has also seen an increase in Automatic Merc's transfered here.

First Northampton.
* 32,33,34,40,265,266,268,269,270 have been de-licenced for the School holidays. This only leaves three Metrobuses in service at the moment (31/5 & 267).
* Volvo coach No. 7 has been re-registered NTL655.
* Gas Bus availability reached an all time low on sat 15th with all 6 off the road by four o'clock, there is a dispute between NT and Volvo Truck and Bus, over who will continue to pay the astronomical maintenence costs. Thanx to "DAVE".
* Aquired from First Bradford are S101/4/5 CSG Scania L94 / Wright "Barbies". With Another yet to come. Thanx to "DAVE".
* On loan from First Quickstep (Leeds) is Optare Solo 2304. This is used on the Althorp car park shuttle. Thanx to "DAVE".
* Ten of the ex-Glasgow Olympians were loaned from Leicester on 10/11 July to cover for buses on a special University College graduation day service. Some drivers were also "Borrowed" for this service. Thanx to "DAVE".
* The last of the ex Eastern Counties Leyland Tiger buses have been transferred elsewhere in the First group.

General.
* Woods coaches now have a further Mercedes Mini, J207KTT which started life working for Plymouth.

JUNE 2000

Arriva Derby.
* Scania 2181 has been transferred to Southgates as a Driver trainer.
* New here is 2249 W249SNR a Dennis Dart / Plaxton MPD and similar 2251 W251SNR.
* On the Minus side 4112/4 have been withdrawn.

First Leicester.
* Dennis Dominator 52 TBC52X Was noted in the ditch/hedge on the A426 near Dunton Bassett this morning (05/07) with front offside damage (possibly on a Lutterworth Grammar School contract). Also there was Ausden Clark NIL2733 a DAF/Jonckheere D/D coach originally thought to be ferrying away any passengers but an identical vehicle was later seen on-tow behind a Crouch recovery vehicle (same one ?) !.
* Dominator 91 (E91 ENR) in a white livery with dark green roof down to include the upper windows, plus the skirt. A deep band of, rather gaudy, lime-yellow is above the skirt, but below the lower windows. At first glance I thought it was a second-hand Roadcar or Yorkshire Terrier vehicle! At least 6 new Ds Trident's were visible in the depot today but the only reg obtained was W774 DWX - surely this is a West Yorkshire reg (First Leeds/Bradford?).......??????????? Also seen today were P180/1/2 TGD in service - Olympians/Ar ex First Glasgow. Scania/Wt SD's 347/8/54/6 (at least) now have amended route branding for 'Red Line 38'. Thanx to "DALE" 4 this info.
* First Leeds W725CWR a Volvo B7TL/Alexander ALX400 has been on loan for driver familiarisation.
* First Glasgow P182TGD a Volvo Olympian with Alexander RL body has been noted in Leicester.

Arriva Fox County.
* Ex Derby Scania/Ar PS B51F 2181 (E21 ECH) has been repainted all white for Arriva Training - seen with 'L' plates in Leicester today. Thanx to "DALE" 4 this info.
* Following a short break of operating ex London Buses (remember all them DMS's in the 80's) a couple of Leyland Titans have shown up via Scouseland. CUL160V & EYE245V Are working out of Wigston on School contracts.
* There is no 2245 W245SNR and the Two scanias transferred from Derby are confirmed as 2189/90.
* Fleetlist updated 25th June.
* Recent Changes to Minibus operations have seen Dart's 2239/41-4/6-8 enter service at Southgates replacing M147-51/4/7/8 which have Moved to Thurmaston in turn replacing M107-10 which have gone to Hinkley and M112-5 to Coalville (Replacing M291/6,402 and M302/35/42/3 respectively)
* The withdrawal of M332/5/43 means that there are no Carlyle bodied minibuses remaining. Some recently withdrawn mini's are parked up at Wigston.
* Due to a Major driver shortage Thurmaston is working on emergency running cards at present. To try and combat this problem M162 (spare due to no driver's to drive it in service) was running around Leicester for a couple of weeks advertising a driver Recruitment day at Leicester Citys Filbert Street Ground. This shows that not just London has a Driver shortage !

General.
* A bit of competition has broken out on the A6 down to Market Harborough with stagecoach intrducing the X7 in competition with the Fox County X61. Whilst on the Subject of Stagecoach..... the 757 Service from Leicester to Doncaster has been cut back to Start from Nottingham and in it's place Barton (or Trent depending on your viewpoint) has started running the 777 Leicester to Nottingham Express using the Volvo coaches formally in franchised Stagecoach livery (P56-8ETO) and appears to be doing good buisness.
* The Paul James coach fleet has been updated recently with the arrival of W10PJC+W20PJC Optare Solo's and W1PJC a very nice Setra S315GT.
