GWR Documents

From the 1890's, here are a few GWR documents which may be of some interest to you. These were rescued from Bala station (some 22 miles west of Llangollen) while being prepared for demolition back in the late1960's.The Paris advert is actually on the reverse side of the London advert A few of these were saved and even after one hundred years are in good condition.  Incidently the Telegraph was sent to the biggest landowner in Bala at that time, Mr. Price of Rhiwlas.

The castellated goods shed in background

He had objected to the Railway intruding  upon the landscape and to placate him the railway built the goods warehouse in the style of a castle - presumably he could see it from his estate. His descendant Robin Price still lives on the estate.

These images cannot do justice to the real article but we hope you find them of interest.

Most are large files ( 100KB+) but in order to view them properly this is unavoidable.
