Rail

Main rail access to the coast path is via Poole, Wareham, Dorchester and Weymouth. These are all served by trains from London and the Midlands and North of England. There are hourly trains between London and Dorset, with the train taking around 2 1/2 hours from London to Weymouth.

For rail enquiries call 08457-484950.

Bus

Dorset County Council produces two transport maps including bus timetables for both the West Dorset Heritage Coast and the Purbeck Heritage coast. These can be obtained from local Tourist Information Centres. In general bus frequencies are less frequent in winter and often either do not run on a Sunday or have a reduced service.

Bus services that are relevant include;

1        Weymouth - Abbotsbury           Wessex Bus Company
31      Weymouth - Axminster               First Southern National
           via Bridport/Lyme Regis
210    Weymouth - Bridport                 First Southern National
           via West Bay/Abbotsbury
X53    Exeter - Weymouth                    First Southern National
           via Lyme/West Bay/Abbotsbury
29       Swanage - Lulworth                   Swanage Taxis Ltd
30       Weymouth - Lulworth               Weaverbus
142/4   Poole - Swanage                      Wilts and Dorset
150     Bournemouth - Swanage           Wilts and Dorset

The main problem in gaining access is in reaching Kimmeridge. There is only one bus a week (Thursdays) from Swanage.
