In 1806, the partnership between John Shackleton and William Shackleton Grocers & Tea Dealers of Wakefield was dissolved. (Leeds Intelligencer)

Following the death of Daniel Smalpage, in January 1808 the partnership between himself and William Shackleton Sugarbakers of Wakefield was dissolved. (London Gazette)

In March 1808, Francis Smalpage put up for sale the Soap House of Daniel Smalpage deceased, it being a large yard and extensive premises with copper and crane against the River Calder, with wharf and dwelling house. (Hull Advertiser) [Just perfect for a sugarhouse.]

Wardle & Bentham's Directory of 1814-15 shows two entries for Sugar Manufacturers ... John Gouldthorpe in Westgate and John Shackleton in Northgate, Wakefield.
