Account of a visit to the Limekilns and Llangattock Wharf
by Kye.

Visit to Lime Kiln.

The lime kiln is a big brick building next to the canal. We went up a gravel path to the top of the lime kiln and we looked down into it. There were loads of plants because it is overgrown and not used anymore. The limestone was carried from the quarries to the lime kiln. Coal and limestone were put into the kiln and burnt.

When the limestone was burnt it turned into powder, it was then shovelled into bags and put onto the canal boats, then taken to Talybont. It was used by the farmers on the fields.
One night a tramp stopped for a bite to eat next to the limekilns. He went to sleep and he rolled into the limekilns, he was burnt with the coal and lime.
