( An illustrated account of that holiday. )
Sunday 18th August. Time - 7.25 hours Locks 7 Miles 26
7.15 a.m. Moved off. Passed good visitor moorings alongside Child Beale Wildlife Park many moored boats including 2 motors, both called Indus. and Motor Naid and butty Musc.
7.45 a.m. Winded and moored immediately above Whitchurch lock. A brief look around and a clean up.
8.15 a.m. Started back up the Thames.
9.15 a.m. Up Goring lock with three other boats including a broad beam fibreglass hire boat. On the lock moorings above the lock was the Owl and the Pussy Cat so we had a brief shouted conversation.
Passed Emscote, Ownerships, heading East, and were then passed by a Rowing Eight.
1.00
p.m. Mooring above Day's lock again for a light lunch.
2.30 p.m. Moved on up the river.
3.00 p.m. Reached Clifton Lock. First congestion, third in line, other boats behind and a lock full going up. But still through the lock in just 10 minutes due to the efficient speed of the keeper.
A Regatta just South of Abingdon Town bridge. Had to keep to one side of the river and go slowly as we passed.
Then immediately above Town bridge two full and noisy Salter Brothers trip boats moving about.
4.45 p.m. Squeezed into moorings opposite the abbey fields and alongside a pony show. The family went off to visit the show and for a brief look at Abingdon while I started dinner.

6.15 p.m. On up the river as family back, although Angela with a bee sting. We moved up through Abingdon lock into peace and quiet!!
6.30 p.m. Moored by the weir for the Swift Ditch just after Abingdon Lock for the night.
