August 2002
On the canal with the Reed Family.

( An illustrated account of that holiday. )

Monday 12th August. Time - 8.5 hours Locks 11 Miles 13

6.30 a.m. Set off. Just above Somerton Deep Lock passed two hotel boats, Motor Tarsus, and Butty Snipe moored for the night, crew just starting to wake up.

At Heyford Common lock, Narrow Boat Balliol was moored on the lock rings above the lock!

8.30 a.m. Moored just below Allen's lock for breakfast and clear up.

9.00 a.m. Carried on.

9.30 a.m. Moored for water and milk at Hayford Wharf Bridge, B206. Cleaned brasses and sorted rubbish and stove as it filled. Also repainted red band on the chimney.

10.30 a.m. Moved off again. The canal was very quiet, in the last hour only one boat had passed us either way.

1.00 p.m. Called at Beta Marina to collect a new Calor Gas.

The River Cherwell was on the Green / Orange boundary.

1.45 p.m. Moored just below Shipton Weir Bridge for lunch.

2.15 p.m. Moved on as too hot to sit still.

5.00 p.m. Moored for night just below Duke's cut junction. Noisy with traffic and trains, but populated and felt safe to moor. Shallow so used springs to hold us steady.

Go on to the next day.
