On the canal with the Reed Family.
( An illustrated account of that holiday. )
By travelling an average of nine hours a day, and starting early in the morning when the canal was at it's best, starting from Calcutt boats near Rugby we visited Oxford, Market Harborough, the outskirts of Leicester and Gayton Junction. Travelling a total of 226 miles, through 149 locks and moving for 117 hours in our 13 full days and two bits.
- Saturday 12th August.
- First day from Calcutt Boats to Napton Junction - (Miles 2 Locks 1 Time 1.5 hours.)
- Sunday 13th August.
- Napton to Cropredy on the S. Oxford - (Miles 15 Locks 17 Time 9.5 hours.)
- Monday 14th August.
- Down the S. Oxford to Somerton village - (Miles 14 Locks 8 Time 9 hours.)
- Tuesday 15th August.
- The rest of the S. Oxford to moor in the city itself - (Miles 17 Locks 11 Time 9.25 hours.)
- Wednesday 16th August.
- Back up the S. Oxford from Oxford to Shipton Weir Lock - (Miles 7 Locks 4 Time 4 hours.

- Thursday 17th August.
- Continuing up the S. Oxford to Borton Lock - (Miles 22 Locks 12 Time 10.25 hours.)
- Friday 18th August.
- Almost the end of the S. Oxford to the top of Napton Locks - (Miles 14 Locks 12 Time 8.25 hours.)
- Saturday 19th August.
- After a side trip to Calcutt Boats, over to Braunston and up the Grand Union through the locks and tunnel - (Miles 15 Locks 15 Time 9.5 hours.)
- Sunday 20th August.
- On to the Leicester branch up through Watford locks onto the summit over Husband Bosworth - ( Miles 19 Locks 7 Time 9.5 hours.)
- Monday 21st August.
- Down through Foxton then towards Leicester ending up at the top of Kibworth locks - (Miles 16 Locks 24 Time 10.25 hours.)
- Tuesday 22nd August.
- Over to Market Harborough and back past the bottom of Foxton to Saddington - (Miles 21 Locks 0 Time 6.75 hours.)
- Wednesday 23rd August.
- Up Foxton today and back over the summit level - (Miles 19 Locks 10 Time 7.5 hours.)
- Thursday 24th August.
- Down Watford locks, then down the Grand Union to Gayton Junction - (Miles 24 Locks 14 Time 11.25 hours.)
- Friday 25th August.
- Back up the Grand Union to Braunston and down to near Napton Junction - ( Miles 18 Locks 13 Time 9 hours.)
- Saturday 26th August.
- Back to Calcutt Boats and home for the year - (Miles 3 Locks 1 Time 1.5 hours.)
