Off at 7.00a.m. in brilliant sunshine, on to Norton junction, where we passed another Calcutt boat being woken up by cows, then North up the Leicester branch. Moored 8.15 till 8.30 below bottom locks Watford while looking for the keeper, then up the first two locks ready to pass two boats coming down. Easy fairly quick passage, mooring up at the water point above the top lock 10.00 till 10.30 on a very very slow tap.
At Crick, B 12 just after the tunnel, paused for 15 minutes while I ran up to the village stores to complete our provisioning. Then passed staging still being taken down after the show a couple of months ago.
We then stopped just before B24 for lunch, 12.45 to 1.45, and let the family catch up as they were walking along the tow path since B 17. Very quiet moorings apart from sheep, cows, and church bells and shooting in the distance. The peace of the country.
Angela steering as we passed N. Kilworth Boat services had to hold while a large boat winded and other boat movements took place, then met a fibreglass boat under the bridge which promptly ran aground and stalled its engine!
At the end of the day we went through Husband Bosworth tunnel, having a lot of trouble with an on coming boat with a very powerful search light mounted at the rear and no front light. In the end I had to stop as I was dazzled and unable to locate the front of their boat! We then moored up at 6.00 for the night and our roast beef dinner just after the tunnel.
