Off at 6.45 a.m., as the sun came out of the clouds, lifted the mist from the canal and the fields wet with overnight rain. Despite the early start the locks were busy. No waits but boats all around. We then paused from 10.00 till 10.30 for water below bottom lock. Intended to use Napton Stores so widely advertised to restock, but it is selling up and closing down, so we moved on.
We turned down to Calcutt Boats going down the lock to the base for a pump out 12.00 to 12.15, and to drop off the bike at the car, it had not been used and was just in the way! We then went onto Baunston, stopping for 30 minutes at B 100 for a late lunch. As we came into Braunston we passed the steamer Vulcan all closed up on the moorings. We then stopped ourselves from 3..15 till 4.00 by B1 opposite Motors Australia and Aldgate with Butty Angel. Here found very good food shops, general store and butcher in the village to restock the boat
We then went up the Baunston 6 locks in company with ‘Strip the Willow’ a private 40ft. We carried on straight through the tunnel mooring up for the night just after B6. at 6.15 p.m.
