Many things go toward the unique atmosphere of Clifton House. A Victorian house, 1873, most decoratively revived, abounding with flowers paintings and colour. It has been said that dining at the Clifton is like being on the set of a James Ivory film. The restaurant is the cornerstone of the establishment and the ambitious elegant cuisine renowned: undoubtedly French in style, but using the best Scottish produce. The wine list is probably the longest in the North of Scotland

Awarded 'THE MOST ROMANTIC RESTAURANT' in 1994 Sunday Telegraph guide to the top ten restaurants in UK. The public rooms include the Yellow Sitting Room with hand blocked paper from Temple Newsham, The Green Room and The Drawing Room in which the blocked paper was designed by Pugin and used for the Robing Room in the Palace of Westminster in 1849. Clifton won a Design Award of Distinction in 1988 among the British Tourist Authority Commended Hotels Clifton has had an entry in The Good Food Guide since 1969, often with distinctions for the wine list.

Clifton House has only grass and trees between it and the sea, overlooks the whole stretch of the Moray Firth and commands an unrivalled view of the Ross-shire and Sutherland hills. The beach, tennis courts and swimming pool are only two minutes walk away and the hotel is equidistant to both golf courses.
