The East & West Supermarket,
Nu-X Rd, Deptford). Welcome to our 20th-century-vibe human nature reserve. Forget rip
off Britain, Rocklands (especially Deptford Fun City and
Nu X) are Affordability Central!
Internationalism. 21st century vision.
Everybody is from everywhere around here.
To shop in the little family businesses of
the area is to find treasure upon treasure. Deptford and New Cross should remain
affordable. You can get EVERYTHING you need here and its not overpriced. Deptford
High Street was even recently ranked among "Ten Things You Should See In London"
(along side Buck Palace etc) by the London Tourist Board.
Visit Use Your Loaf, centre
for social solidarity, 227 Deptford High Street SE8. An old bakery, left abandoned for many years, has
been occupied by local people working for themselves. Sick of our destructive and
oppressive society, trying to work towards a freer and more rewarding way of life. Fridays
from 7pm enjoy company, drinks, film and delicious vegetarian meals, every second Saturday
12-2.30 buy records and books. 2nd Tuesday every month Red & Black Club Advice
Surgery: Workers rights, benefits advice, housing/squatting and more.
Every Friday, 7pm : Cafe - cheap veggie food, drink, a chance to hang out, meet
people, watch videos. Every second Saturday 12pm-2.30pm record and book stall.

check out the fab cafes, second hand clothes, records etc along the same
strip then perhaps pop in Goldsmiths Tavern or The Hobgoblin for
a swift refreshment...
Murals,
history, exhibitions, events, parks, 24 hour transport of all kinds, unique and unusual
shopping, a wealth of international dining and music, music, music... come to Rocklands!

Rocklands has got soul, vitality,
colour, personality. Across the river, Docklands has got the Metropolis look but no heart
and soul at all. The families of the Dockers belong there. Should move the people in the
shitty housing you see on the DLR just before you pull into Bank, into Docklands at their
usual rent (if they choose) and give it some humanity, then make their hovels into nice
flats that remain at their old rent price (and if they dont choose to move at least
theyll have an environment with a chance of a bright future). The view of modern
Docklands from the ancient Greenwich park (The Royal Observatory) is increasingly Sci Fi!
In
an age of alcopops, debt slavery, stress, suicide, bad manners and dodgy morals I feel
that, on the whole, Rocklands is a haven of sanity and should be viewed as such. I suggest
the Rocklands Tourist Board to try rock and roll tourism, commonism (capitalism mixed with
communism for the benefit of most people possible), to WAGE PEACE, and promote love and
unity.
This may all sound
like 21st Century Punk hippy dippy nonsense but as our entire family-friends circle have
lived like this for decades maybe its time for somebody to ignore the
pound-sign-inspired advice of their marketing guru, and follow the positive example of
every day people.
