Goldsmiths Tavern, The Paradise Bar, The Time Bar, and The Montague Arms are just some of the venues in Rocklands that make for a lively night out in the South East of London. It's an area next to River Thames and retains pre-millenium charm... for now.

The Rocklands Tourist Board recommend Deptford Market on a Saturday before eating out at a multi-tude of types of cafes and restaurants in the area serving tasty food at a realistic price. Then a Saturday night out in the New Cross area at the knees-up of choice. Perhaps you could arrive in Rocklands by DLR to Deptford Bridge. If you get to the front of the train you can pretend to drive!

On Sunday, walk it off around Greenwich passing St Nick's church on the way (Deptford has a pirate history and retains in touch with history or via Greenwich High Street - past The Engine House where bands like Orange Can and Anamorphic rehearsed/recorded. Saint Rose have made this their home. Greenwich Park is worth spending a whole day exploring in itself. Some bits are like walking through the "heaven" pictured on religeous pamphlets! There are also frequent boat rides and services from the pier by Cutty Sark.

Deptford's high street was typical in the 20th century before town centres were turned into the identical mcshoplands of the 51st state). the businesses are mainly owned by individuals. highly affordable shopping for every day folk - it's happily unposh. hale's gallery has be recommended in various magazine articles though. hopefully the vibe of the area won't be disturbed by the posh developments behind st nick's...oh oh! will the town snatchers take Rocklands and relieve stress with coffee shops etc? if i want coffee then there's a coffee shop already in new cross...

if it stays the same, as the rest of london becomes more like usa, (my japanese mate reckons it looks like america now) it'll soon be a tourist attraction in itself. After all, there are more venues in London Punk City than just about anywhere, and a regular feeling that a festival could break out any minute...
