We neeeded a gang to make this happen. A simple idea is hard to get across in a complicated world but great music helps. Music Tourist Board (i.e. any music fanatics that want to support and promote promising new talent whether its in with media, or not) gathered a couple of times since August to bounce ideas, make friends, suggest key bands, network, play CDs loud, exchange excited natter about how great things were in music right now. We want to celebrate. Bands, zines, photographers labels, promoters, DJs, film makers in one room with some alcohol. Of course things would happen. To be part of this, all anybody has to do is join in. Pure rock n roll thrills escapism. Exposure is oxygen to emerging acts looking for a career. Career bands are oxygen to a huge industry for BritainIreland whether you work in a record shop, as a journalist, sell t shirts, in the bar of a venue or run a record label of any size. Our huge bands need years not months. Instead of pouring loads of money and seeing what sticks, wed try pouring loads of energy. To be able to fill a 300 capacity venue with fans is a great achievement that deserves big respect. And if you can go further than that, then best of luck with lots of love! By the August Bank Holiday weekend, the first Music Tourist Board postcard, greetings from LaLaLand was doing the rounds at Reading Festival and the guest area (with kind permission of Vince from the Mean Fiddler). To start spreading the word to music fans/industry. On the back was a list of URLs of websites on the wavelength of this initiative (couldnt fit them all on so when these have gone, well do another). Since then, that selection of Alternative Industry are among many that have come on in leaps and bounds. In September the worlds first Music Tourist Board was established. No launch or anything, we just GOT GOING. An idea off the establishments radar of how things are done . A non-profit disorgansation to support and promote the music life of BritainIreland by any fun and lovely means neccessary. In the future it will become a charity to help new music using initative as well as donadtion to raise money that could help music people and community alike. With no funding we cant afford to REGISTER as a charity yet (but are determinedly saving coins, so watch this space). Faith in music has patience. Theres a wealth of talent with potential, but to get a chance, they need help right now. Huge deals not necessary, development not readily availalbe. MTB doesn't have money, but is LOADED with imagination, creativity, enthusiasm, contacts and belief in the bands. With no huge pound signs floating around it isnt really going to attract much attention in these early stages. What it DOES have though, is ongoing contact with some of the most exciting new bands around, much more important. Being able to work out of the limelight is what makes it cutting edge and completely different. In the mean time, The pool of Alternative Rock Idol bands chosen by people who are THERE when the happening bands are happening, are on their way to the limelight already. Hooray!!! Right then a few handfuls of Alternative Rock Idols (incidentally every single band was completely different to all the others!), some dates, a venue, a production team and the kind support of some DJs to make the nights into a party. We had a four-show event with an amazing line up for every Tuesday (Pop Of The Tops night) in October-003. It was a bit deflating that the possible preview articles (and later, live reviews) of initial interest didn't materialise in the end. But then it was a day dream after all, even if it did over estimate the excitement that sending out some tunes would do. As it happened, much of the CDs got lost in the huge piles that take ages to listen to. That was the only real downer really. As we had seen most of these bands already, Music Tourist Board posse were excited as hell to have these bills: 07-Oct-003 : THE CROWD + LUDES + SAN SEBASTIAN with guest DJs Mark Morriss of The Bluetones and John Earls of Planet Sound (Teletext)/Pop Of The Tops. 14-Oct-003 : CORPORATION:BLEND + MY RED CELL + ART BRUT with guest DJs Maxi and Nelsta of King Adora and Gaz Cloud of Jet Black N Bleached Club. 21-Oct-003 : SPECIAL NEEDS + THE NEW RHODES + CHRIS T-T with guest DJs Kinesis and Mark Beaumont of NME. 28-Oct-003 : THE MIGGS + TWISTED CHARM + BLOC PARTY + COAST with guest DJs Toby L of Rockfeedback.com/The Basement, Daniel of Twinstar Revolution/Social Hand Grenade and Paul Madden of www.joyzine.co.uk and Kari of Excess Press. ... elated!

Corporation:Blend headlined the Pop Of The Tops launch and win fans with every gig. Matt from CEC sent us My Red Cell wow! they rocked. They were on the bill. Art Brut are core movers n shakers of the 21st century art punk activity that we welcomed back with open arms. The venue was decorated by the South East X hibition celebrating this left field, art/music drenched part of the city.
