- Rocklands Tourist Board - Local Music Links Believe in magic
the fairies band
I'm
a local dandy love pirate myself. I live by the river and it's magic. But there's all
sorts of different magic in the air of Rocklands - music is a big part of it. It's like a
Martin Millar novel come to life round here sometimes.
With woodland folk, witches and wizards as friends, I
sometimes wear my wings and use my magic wand but mainly on special occasions - I'm not a
real fairy you see.
There are real fairies round here - they can fly.. I
know 'cos I've seen them float past (or through) The Hobgoblin pub on Nu X Road - it's not
far from the pink palace where The Fairies live. There are many odd
sights locally so nobody gets freaked out by it). These fairies formed a band, and that's
what I like best about these fairies - the gigs that I've seen.
Being a regular at London Callin club, I've
seen The Fairies Band play there twice. Like much of the shenanigans at
that club they were highly entertaining. Imagine a sort of punk Slater sisters with fairy
wings singing with a guitar band. A bit shambolic but that was the same charm that got The
Beta Band past their first gig in Kings Cross Water Rats a couple of years ago,
and I really enjoyed that too.
21st century punx influenced by Madonna
and The Sex Pistols can't be a bad thing - pop princesses in
waiting, riot fairrrrrries and most importantly, in possession of SONGS, voices, attitude,
dreams and a sprinkle of fairy dust. I don't see why, with some fine tuning, Sparkle,
Tinky, Tinsel and Twinkle Fairy shouldn't fly high...
They're off to a good start, Planet Earth probably doesn't
know many fairies that are in bands, and some of it's media have already picked up on
them. They've been on This Morning TV sharing a sofa with Darius,
played a Channel 5 TV party, and appeared in various magazines and stuff. Neil
and Christine Hamilton want to hang out with 'em, proving that they are
indeed away with the fairies.. All ace, but I must protest a bit. You see The
Fairies have a self penned CD with the songs "We're Not
Butterflies" and "Wish For A Day", mighty fine
melodic pop - four part harmonies, the works. I think they deserve the attention of people
that pride themselves on WOTS GOING ON in music. They might have wings, but they're not
butterflies, they're pop stars. It's great that they've got a foot in the door of celeb
city, but in 003 I want to see The Fairies brightening up music mags and
sites too. After all, you can't see their wings when you're listening to the cd.
Like the rest of this non-scene there's something pretty
uncynical going on in their camp, if you value your own opinion, like raw pop and live
ENTERTAINMENT, then here's another of the bands that you should make an effort go to
see/support. I don't believe you'll be disappointed..
